It was with great delight that the staff returned to the Ursuline Thurles last week to begin the new academic year 2020/2021 and it appeared the students were also glad to be back in the building meeting and greeting their friends once again. Many changes and strategies have been put in place to keep UCT safe and operational during these times of continued difficulty. This term begins like no other in living memory with everyone on site adhering to and implementing the necessary health guidelines of frequent hand washing, social distancing and the mandatory wearing of face masks. Students are being encouraged to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the last of the sunshine during break times. It is also chance for them to get a welcome breather and pocket their face coverings for awhile. The compliance and resilience of the students has been exemplary and they deserve heaps of praise for handling all the demands placed upon them so well.
On Wednesday, 2 September the Ursuline was thrilled to welcome the First Years to the School. They were shown the ropes by their class tutors who were on hand all morning to help them settle in. Then it was out to the Hockey pitches in the afternoon for socially distanced ice-breakers and games which were rounded off with the traditional first day ice-cream which they seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
