ENTERPRISE AWARD

Five of last year’s Transition Year students attended an awards ceremony in the Clock Tower Room in the Department of Education last Wednesday. Lucy Hayes, Niamh Kearney, Blaithnin Linnane, Roisin O’Sullivan and Hannah Ryan accepted the Sean Lemass Award for Excellence in Enterprise from An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny T.D. for their success in last year’s Enterprise competitions with their Hockey Hands product. The girls were one of nine Schools in the country over a two year period (2013 & 2014) to receive this award, all schools having received placings in the Enterprise Ireland and Get Up & Go competitions. The girls in turn presented the Taoiseach with a sample of their product!

OPENING MASS

The Opening of the Year School Mass will take place this Wednesday, September 24, in the Cathedral. The theme chosen by The Religious Education Department is:

“There is no such thing as ordinary life. It’s just a life lived well”

and it will be celebrated in prayer, scripture, music and art.

CAMOGIE:

The First & Second Years had their first competitive outing last week when they travelled to take part in the Co Tipperary Blitz. The Second Year team made it to the final and despite being down quite substantially at half time, the team rallied and came within two points of a victory. The First Year team won both its matches.

HOCKEY:

The Under 16 and Under 18 Munster & South Eastern Hockey panels were announced last week for the coming season and includes some Ursuline students. Ruth Herlihy and Caoimhe Perdue have made it through on the U 16 panel in Munster and Rose O’Sullivan, Brona Dowling & Izzy Walsh have been chosen for the South East. At Under 18 level, Kate Crotty and Becky Danaher will represent Munster and Roisin Dowling, Aoife Booth and Susie Osborne will represent the South East. All girls will now continue weekend Provincial Training in preparation for the Inter Provincial competition which will be held in October.
