Football in the school has gone from strength to strength in the last number of years. 2016 was an impressive year for 1st years as we won the 1st Year Tipperary Schools Tournament and following that the Munster A Mallow Tournament with a total of 50 schools entering. We have had numerous wins in Tipperary schools competitions in all ages and we were Munster Finalists in Senior Football in 2018 and also Munster Finalists in Junior Football in 2019. With such demand for football in the school we entered two junior teams for the last 3 years.
All teams train at lunch time or after school and we have football available for every year group. We currently have 6 players on the Tipperary U14 team, 6 players on the Tipperary U16 team and 2 players on the Tipperary Minor Team. The future is bright for UCT football.
Senior B Football
2024 was the year that the Senior Footballers, many of the team being dual players, brought the Munster title back to the Ursuline for the first time in the school’s history. They beat Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig in Mallow. They beat Ulster Champions, Sacred Heart Grammar, Newry to book their slot in the All Ireland Final against St Attracta’s, Tubercurry. Despite being ahead at half-time Tubercurry took a stronger hold on the game in the closing minutes. It was a huge achievement to get so far in the Senior All Ireland series and it means that the school are now poised to take their place in the A competition in 2025.
Junior B Football
On 20 February, 2024 the Junior B Footballers created another first for the Ursuline when crowned Post Primary Munster Football Champions. They overcame Coláiste Dún Iascaigh to reach the last four in the competition. Again this success at Junior B means that the Ursuline will now be competing in Junior A Football in 2024/25.
