Navan Choral Festival
It has been a great year for the Ursuline Cecilian Choir. They finished in the runner-up position at the 39th Navan Choral Festival last week, missing out on the top spot by the narrowest of margins. They won a beautiful silver plate as well as high praise from the judges.
The Ursuline had three teams participating in the County U14 Football Blitz held in Rockwell on Tuesday, May 15. All teams played with grit and determination and two teams battled through their group stages to reach the final. The A team beat Presentation Thurles and Cashel which placed them in a final against Loreto Clonmel. The result of this encounter was Ursuline 1-1 – 4-3 Loreto. The B team had impressive wins against Cashel and Rockwell in their group stage only to find themselves overtaken by the Cashel B squad in the final. The score was Ursuline 0-2 2-1 Cashel. The B1s had a decisive victory against St Anne’s. They were narrowly pipped by girls from Pres Thurles and Pres Clonmel in their other games. There was plenty of action and great displays from all Ursuline teams on the day.
Well done to our Senior Camogie team who reached the final of the County Blitz on Tuesday, May 15. In the end Nenagh proved to be too strong and the scoreboard finished up Ursuline 2-08 to St. Mary’s 3-12.
It was a very busy morning for Ursuline Choirs on Friday, May 11 with choirs from First Year, Second Year and Transition Year all taking exams. The Cecilian Choir and Chamber Choir also sang for the examiners who were impressed by the very high standard of performance from each group.
The Junior Orchestra had their exam on Wednesday, May 15 and their Music teacher Ms McNally was delighted with their pieces. Well done to all Junior Orchestra members for their commitment throughout the year and to Ms McNally for her musical guidance and direction.
Speech and Drama
Ms Purcell’s Speech and Drama students achieved some outstanding results in their recent exams. Isabelle Quirke and Anne Marie O’Byrne Casey both received gold medals in their LAMDA exams while Lucy Nugent and Sinéad Lynch were both awarded silver. There were numerous other gold medalists from those who took exams with the Irish Board of Speech and Drama these included Mary Kate Barrett, Fifth Year, Emily Kavanagh, Junior Cert, Avril Macken, Ellie McMinn and Eilish Naughton, Second Year and Francesca Neilan, First Year. Proficient Gold Medals were attained by Leaving Cert students Anna Neilan, Stephanie Kelly, Kate Molony and Melissa Odlum. Well done to all students who achieved so highly and to their teacher Ms Purcell.
In the U16 Munster A League Ursuline won against Colaiste an Phiarsaigh, Glanmire. They played in the Aghada Tennis Club and the girls did really well winning on a scoreline of 4-1. The Ursuline team was Rebecca McCabe (Captain), Emma McCabe, Heather Hourigan Powell and Catherine Hennessy.
