Get Up and Go Mini Company

Well done to TY Mini Company Farm Blue who scooped two awards at the National Final of the Get Up and Go Enterprise awards on Tuesday, 2nd May. They won in the categories of Innovation and Marketing. The company comprising of Sarah Bourke, Lisa Fanning, Niamh Keane and Jane Hyland design and produce products to aid those in the agricultural sector. Their simple but effective products include the innovative Head to Tail. This is used to assist a farmer or a vet when examining a cow in a crush. It allows the tail to be be tied effectively and painlessly to the crush, thus enabling the farmer or vet to have the use of two hands. The students were also selling a nasal paddle to help wean calves in order to reduce noise pollution and upset to the animals.

The same Mini Company team went onto to compete in the Scifest competition in L.I.T. Thurles the following day, Wednesday, 3rd May and won first prize in the Technology category. Well done to the girls and to their Mini Company teacher Ms.Bourke.

The Ursuline had three projects entered into Scifest, held in LIT on Wednesday, 3rd May and all three received prizes in different categories. As well as first prize for Farm Blue in Technology there was a prize in the Science in Agriculture category for Sarah Ryan, Laura Cloonan Fennelly and Laura Maher for their investigation of the effect on milk for processing of the possible overuse of paracetic acid as an agent when sterilising milking machines and bulk tanks. The third team of Sadhbh Leahy and Caoimhe Perdue won a Maths in Science award for their survey on the effects of different texting speeds. Well done to all the teachers and students involved.

Munster Camogie Blitz

The Ursuline First Year Camogie players headed off to Charleville last week for a Munster Blitz. They played teams from Charleville and Bandon but met with tough competition from both Cork sides. They finished the day with a game against Doon. It was great experience for them with some very competitive matches and a chance to soak up the glorious sunshine. Well done to all First Years who travelled and participated.

Football Blitz

The Ursuline had two teams competing in the U15 Football Blitz held in Rockwell last week. The A team got to the semifinals but were beaten by Loreto Clonmel. The B team played some tough games in their group. A great day was had by all.
