The Rotary Young Writers Competition
Congratulations to Geraldine Ryan a Sixth Year student who is a finalist in the Rotary Young Writers Competition. Students were asked to write a composition based on the theme “Peace”. Geraldine chose to write in letter format and she developed the theme by focussing on the idea of ‘peace of mind’. Geraldine’s composition was read at the Rotary Conference last Saturday and at the time of going to press Geraldine was awaiting the final results. Congratulations to Geraldine for reaching the final in such a prestigious competition and fingers crossed that she will get even better news this week!
Transition Year Day Out
Last Friday the Transition Year group headed to Bunratty castle for a cultural day out. They were given a guided tour of the castle and visited the Folk Village to find out how our ancestors lived in times of yore. The day didn’t end there, the girls then headed to Shannon Airport where they learned how to land a plane using a simulator. They also had the opportunity to learn about the planes and their components from a trained pilot. Following that the group went to Shanagolden to try their hands at a little paintball! It certainly was a hectic day for the girls who enjoyed all the activities immensely and they still had energy left for a little retail therapy in Limerick before returning home on Friday evening.
The School Council was certainly busy last week as they co-ordinated the filming of a “LipDub” video to promote the school. For the past few weeks members of the School Council spent hours and hours researching a route for the LipDub video, prepping students in relation to their role and ensuring that the key characteristics of the school would be evident from the footage. On Friday, D-Day finally arrived and there was a palpable air of excitement as students waited for the filming to begin. Every student in the school played a role in the film with students lining the corridors, playing sports, playing music, displaying art work, subject class work and dancing to the music. Numerous students led the camera through the school while singing the theme song; “Walking on Sunshine”. Some very unusual antics were spotted in the staffroom, intruders are suspected! Well done to the members of the School Council as they event ran very smoothly; stay tuned for details of the finished video-clip!
Goal Mile Challenge
Over the past two weeks students and staff have been participating in the Goal Mile Challenge. The challenge requires those involved to walk a mile to raise money for Goal. Students and staff donated €1 to complete five rounds of the astro-turf hockey pitches at lunchtime. Not only was this activity worthwhile as it raised a sizeable sum for Goal but everybody had a great time chatting as they made their way around the course.
