South East Cross Country 2018.
The South East Munster Cross Country took place on Thursday, February 8 at WIT in Waterford. Four school teams competed and were led out by the
Minors in the first race. Louise Hickey and Lorna Ryan qualified for the Munster’s ably assisted by the rest of the team, Rachel Ryan, Lauren Osborne, Olivia Delargy and Robyn Fanning. The team finished in 5th place overall and will be one to watch for the future.
In the Junior race, the team qualified for the Muster final due to a very gritty and determined team effort. Captain Kate Burke led them home with Emma Gleeson, Jodie O’Leary, Sophia Walsh, Lizzie Burns and Anna Duggan.
The intermediate team of Captain Isobel Forde, Anna McCartan, Emma Roche and Lucy Nugent had the greatest distance to cover. The 3.5 kilometre race started off very fast. The two long laps proved very challenging for all runners. Isobel had a great race and qualified easily for the Munsters.
The last race of the day for the girls was the Senior 2500m race. The ground was very badly cut up but despite this the runners set off at great speed.
Claire Rafter, as captain, was well supported by her team of Niamh Rafter, Emma Osborne, Erika Carroll and Elma McEvoy. They finished well up the
field with Claire qualifying for the Munster finals.
The Senior and Junior As played Kilkenny College last week. The Juniors won well 3-0. The Seniors lost their match by a goal, 3-2.
The first years, groups one and group two played St. Declan’s Waterford last week with both teams winning well.
