There is a dizzying array of extra-curricular activities on offer in the Ursuline, Thurles with something to suit every talent and interest. There are many opportunities to excel off the field as well as on.
Music forms an integral part of the fabric of the school. There are two orchestras and two award winning choirs. There is an annual school musical open to all students from third year, TY and fifth year.
There is an extremely active Green Schools committee and the Ursuline is proud of its seven green flags – more than any other school in Munster.
There is an Amber Flag committee promoting positive mental health. There is a junior and senior book club who meet once a month. There is a hardworking Charities committee who oversee fundraising in the school.
There is Gaisce, John Paul II Awards, public speaking and debating at all levels of the school and not just in English but in German and Gaelige as well. The school is the current holder of the Junior Gael Linn All Ireland Debating title and the national winner of the Knights of Columbanus Public Speaking competition.
There are plenty of opportunities for students to participate in the many liturgical celebrations throughout the year in a variety of ways through prayer, music, song, dance and art. Participation, volunteerism, generosity of spirits and the holistic development of all students are just some of the key cornerstones on which the Ursuline, Thurles is founded.
