Ursuline Mission Day 2025

Thanks to all the students and staff who made this year’s Mission Day a roaring success, raising vital funds for Ursuline schools in Kenya. Everyone was mad for road with the theme of Formula One chosen by the Sixth Years who organised games, activities and food on Thursday, 25 September. There were obstacle races, go-cart races, Mario Kart races, a Brad Pitt photo booth, chequered flag face painting, tattoos, a haunted house, pin the tyres on the race car and lots of treats to eat, to make it an enjoyable day of F1 fuelled fun. Some of the Sixth Years brought in their pet dogs and these furry friends stole the show, getting lots of rubs and plenty of offers of walkies. All money donated on the day and through an online appeal will go to provide for vital educational and healthcare needs of Kenyan students and trainees in Kitui and Turkana, in schools and facilities founded by Sr Clare Ursula from the Ursuline Convent in Thurles.

Ursuline Open Evening

It was lovely to welcome so many fifth and sixth class students and their parents and guardians to the Ursuline on Monday, 22 September for the annual open evening. The school was buzzing with science experiments, presentations, games, sports, singing, trad music, Irish dancing and senior orchestra recitals. There were displays of many of the extra-curricular activities on offer such as School Council, Green Schools, Amber Flag, Charities Committee, Junk Kouture, Book Club, Sci-Fest and BT Young Scientist. The Second Years gave tours of the school and answered questions about the practicalities of secondary school life. Prospective students were guided through specialist rooms such as the Prayer Room, Computers, Technology, Tech Graph, Science and Home Economics. They were able to meet and chat to Ursuline girls in these areas as well as see work and projects from other subjects like modern foreign languages, geography, history and business all around the school. Thanks to all the UCT students and staff who pitched in, helped out, chatted, answered questions, served refreshments and generally added to the lovely atmosphere on the night.

Camogie

The Ursuline Senior A Camogie team beat Coláiste Ennis in the first round of the Munster Championship. The game in Ennis ended in with Ursuline winning by two points 2-16 to 4-8.

The Munster 7s A tournament took place in Charleville on Wednesday, 24 September. The Ursuline played Scoil Mhuire Carrick-on-Suir losing this encounter 3-5 to 5-6. They won their next game against Drumcollogher 3-5 to 3-3. They lost their last group game by a point to St Mary’s Charleville, 2-10 to 3-8 which meant the Ursuline girls, after playing some tremendous camogie throughout the day, were unlucky not to make the final. Thanks to Charleville for hosting the competition.

Heidi Higgins Visit to TY Art

Last week Ursuline TY Art students had a visit from Tipperary based fashion designer Heidi Higgins. She demonstrated embroidery and focussed on sewing skills. This was of particular interest to those hoping to do Junk Kouture this year. Thanks very much to Heidi for taking the time to work with the TYs on very practical and essential fashion skills.

Hockey

Well done to the Ursuline Junior As who started their league campaign on Tuesday, 23 September against Laurel Hill Coláiste. They won this home game which is a great start to the new season.
