Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Finalists
At the end of the last School year four TY students, Gráinne O’Donnell, Louise Creagh, Louise Hickey and Karen Campion were chosen as one of five finalists in the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition. That means this group will receive five Irish Angus calves to rear for the next two years. The students will be awarded their prize calves on Wednesday, 15 September at the National Ploughing Championships. In preparation for this event and the expected press and television interest in their project and win the girls had an online workshop in media training last week. They are really looking forward to meeting the calves and getting them settled on the Creagh farm where there is great excitement at the prospect of these latest livestock additions.
Interprovincial Hockey
Congratulations to the Ursuline students who made the final selection onto Interprovincial Hockey panels after a series of trials during the summer months. Leaving Cert student Kate Ryan made the Munster U18 squad for the second year running. Aoife Kavanagh and Miah Bourke, TY, got called up to the Munster U16 team. Well done to all three on the hard work and commitment they showed all summer. Best of luck to them as they continue to train with Munster in preparation for the start of the Interprovincial series in October.
Transition Year
The TY’s had their very first workshop last week delivered by ‘Develop Me’. This is a very popular experiential learning programme which gives the students the opportunity to learn strategic planning, problem solving, teamwork, collective bargaining and effective communication as they grapple with the task of finding the ‘Lost Dutchman’s Goldmine’. There will be a follow up workshop in the new year to revisit and hone the skills from this first day.
Boogie Bounce
The TY’s had a high octane workout with Orla Tooher from Boogie Bounce on Wednesday, 8 September. Each student had their own, socially distanced’ bouncer while Orla took them through a series of jumps and aerobic moves to give everyone a full, fun exercise session.
