Ursuline Cecilian Choir
Congratulations to the Ursuline Cecilian Choir who performed last week in the Youth Choir of the Year competition, as part of the Navan Choral Festival. The Choir received Highly Commended in a competition that saw them up against eighteen other school and youth groups. They wowed the judges with their versions of Total Praise and Michael McGlynn’s Dúlamán. Before hitting the road to Navan they sang for the examiner from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in school to complete their 2024 Choral exam. Many thanks to teachers Ms Butler, Ms Quinn and Ms Farrell who have done great work with Cecilian Choir all year and continue to prepare them for their final engagement of the year at the Sixth Year Graduation mass on Wednesday, 22 May.
Ursuline Amber Flag Darkness into Light
Well done to all the Ursuline students who took part in the recent Darkness into Light run/walk in aid of mental health charity Pieta House. The Amber Flag Committee in the school under the direction of Ms Loughnane did a great job promoting the event among the student body. Thanks also to the students from both school choirs, Cecilian and Chamber who turned up very early in the morning to sing participants across the finish line. They helped to create a wonderful atmosphere of camaraderie that is so much a part of the Darkness into Light event.
Football
The Sixth Year Footballer from the Ursuline donned the school jersey one last time for the Rachel Kennelly Cup Final held at the end of April. It was a great day of football for all the schools involved in a tournament dedicated to the memory of avid footballer Rachel Kennelly. Well done to St Anne’s Tipp Town who emerged victorious in the competition this year. Thanks to all the Sixth Year Football players who have represented the school with pride and distinction during their time in UCT.
