Feis Ceoil
Well done to the Ursuline Chamber Choir and Senior Orchestra who competed at the prestigious Feis Ceoil Music Competition on Thursday, 19 and Friday, 20 March. The Chamber Choir sang Stars by Latvian Ēriks Ešenvalds which incorporates tuned water glasses and J’entends le Moulin arrangement by Donald Patriquin. Senior Orchestra played a varied programme that included Farondole from l’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Bizet. Nostalgia by Rossano Galante and Viva la Vida by Coldplay. Both groups were very highly commended in their respective classes, a huge achievement at the 130th Feis Ceoil, where the standard is extremely high and competitive.
ARTiculation Public Speaking
Well done to Ursuline TY student Aisling O’Reilly who came runner up at the ARTiculation Ireland 2026 regional final, held at the Tipperary Museum of Hidden History. Aisling’s presented her talk on ‘A Tale of Two Coppers’ which explored the story of 1935 pingin coin and a 1942 pingin coin ring, used as a token engagement ring and later in her parent’s wedding. Her piece beautifully connected family history with the traditions of the Blasket Islands and illustrated Irish culture and heritage through these treasured heirlooms.
Basketball
On Friday, 13 March the Ursuline First and Second Year basketball teams travelled to Tramore to contest the South East semi-final against home side Ardscoil na Mara.
Both teams showed determination and great team work on the court. In the end, it was not to be for the Ursuline girls. The attendance at training and the attitude of the girls was excellent all year. A huge thank you to Ms Ryall and Ms Mulqueen for their support and encouragement.
Rubbish Film Competition
Well done to Ursuline TYs, Vega, Marta, Maria Tudo, Alejandra, Dané, Aishlinn, Maria, Leire, Sadhbh, Louise and Marta who recently attended the awards ceremony for the Rubbish Film Competition in the Horse and Jockey after completing an intensive two-day filmmaking workshop. As part of the competition, they created a powerful one minute film titled Five Excuses, highlighting an environmental issue they feel strongly about. Their film focused on Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action and challenged watchers to reflect on the excuses made by people when it comes to tackling climate change. Their project was a brilliant example of creativity, teamwork, global awareness and integration with so many Irish and International students working hand in hand to complete this short film.
TY Ski Trip Week Two
The twenty-nine TY skiers and their three teachers, Ms Barlow, Ms Harney and Mr O’Heney arrived back safe and sound after a fantastic week on the slopes of Austria. The beginners of the group took lessons and the more skilled skiers among them refreshed their skills on the many runs available. This was week two of the ski trip with 70 TY students in the first group two weeks previously. Many thanks to Ms Barlow who organised both weeks.
