Well done to the other Ursuline team who had a stand at the Tipperary Enterprise Awards, who were also competing in the Senior Category. Senior A Hockey Win the Archer Shield

Congratulations to the Senior A Hockey team who beat Mount Mercy on Monday, 13 March to win the Archer Shield. The final was played in UCT with the homeside securing the win on a tally of 3-1. Goal scorers on the day were Aoife Kavanagh, Abigail Hourigan Powell and Anna McCartan. The Senior As saved their best performance for the last match of the season, playing an excellent attacking game. The defended the circle brilliantly and showed great composure late on when Mount Mercy pushed hard at their goal mouth. Well done on a great effort by all and a special thank you to the Sixth Years on the team, Patsy Norton, Laura Collins, Anna McCartan and Freya Fitzgerald. They have shown greatdedication this year and throughout their time in the Ursuline, from when they started in First Year. Patsy and Anna shared the captaincy of the Senior As this year. They proved themselves to be first rate co-captains, leading the team graciously through the good times and remaining positive when results didn’t go their way. Thanks also to MsCregan for her ongoing commitment to Senior Hockey, her exemplary coaching and constant encouragement of the players.

Fundraiser for the Dillon Quirke Foundation

On Thursday, 16 March the Ursuline held a club jersey day in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation. There was also the final of the Puck Fáda competition which had been taking place in the weeks previously. Students donated money towards wearing their jerseys and also towards trying their hand at the long puck. A total of €1820 euro was collected between both endeavours. Everyone was delighted to be able to give towards this worthy cause, close to the hearts of many students and staff in the School. Many thanks to the School Charities Committee for their work in organising the day and to Ms Hogan, MsStakelum and Ms Egan who were very much involved in overseeing it all.

LCMUN

The Ursuline was represented well last week at the Loreto Convent Model United Nations that took place in Clonmelbetween Tuesday, 14 and Thursday, 16 March. The nineteen student delegates from UCT, representing a variety of nations including Costa Rica, Mongolia and Germany to name but a few, spoke with conviction on behalf of their countries. The conference, which mirrors the proceedings of the United Nations, dealt with a wide range of issues and topics. The students discussed these, passed resolutions and made amendments as they saw fit and in keeping with the policies of their representative nations. They learned loads about how the UN works in practice, the bureaucracy that accompanies such a global organisation and how resolutions are adopted by the General Assembly. Thanks to Ms Quinn who helped the students prepare for the event and also for accompanying them over the three days.
