Junk Kouture 2025

Congratulations to the three Junk Kouture teams from the Ursuline who have qualified from the Regional Finals. ‘Fool Me Once’, ‘Chrysalis’ and ‘Presence Pitch Player’. Well done to all the designers and models who will now be busy improving their designs for the next stage of the competition.

Athletics

Well done to all the Ursuline athletes who competed in the Munster Post Primary Cross Country Championships on Friday, 14 February in Cork. Both the Minor and Intermediate teams have qualified for the All Irelands in Galway in March. Fifth Year student Alana Spillane qualified from the Senior race and ÓrlaPamplin made it through from the Juniors. Thanks to all the parents who travelled to the competition and to athletics coaches Mr McDonnell and Mr Corbett.

Hockey

A huge well done to the Ursuline Yellow team who beat a very strong Castletroy team from Limerick in the Cup on Thursday, 13 February. The UCT goal scorers included Saoirse Harnett, Siún Coleman and Séana Williams. The girls dominated possession throughout and created lots of opportunities going 2-0 up in the third quarter. Castletroyscored on the counter attack despite good defending and goal keeping from the UCT girls. Midway through the fourth quarter the result was sealed in Ursulines favour with a fantastic shot on goal by Séana William. It was an excellent display of grit and determination by all on the UCT panel.

It was a very busy week for the Ursuline First Year Hockey players with five teams involving over 75 girls taking part ingames. Well done to all teams and players especially Shona Murray who scored a hat trick for the blue team. The Blue team have now qualified for a league final while the Red, White, Orange and Yellow teams remain unbeaten this year.

Rugby

The U14 Rugby team played ScoilMhuire, Limerick on Wednesday, 12 February. Although the Ursuline got off to a shaky start they soon found their rhythm and were trailing by only two points after ten minutes. The second half was a fierce contest, with some incredible tackles and strong carries from both sides. The final score was Ursuline 26-35 ScoilMhuire. Ursuline try scorers include Lucy Hayes, Kathryn Stoyanova and Abi Callanan who scored two. Lucy Hayes had three conversions for UCT.

Basketball

The Ursuline First Year Basketballers had a quarter-final match against Ursuline Waterford on Tuesday, 11 February. It was a win for the Thurles girls who now look forward to a South East semi-final after the mid-term break.

The Second Year Basketball team also played a South East quarter-final against Loreto Clonmel. Despite a brave display in a physical game it was Loreto who came out on top with the scoreboard reading Loreto 26-21 Ursuline at the final buzzer.

Football

The Ursuline First Year Footballers played Presentation Thurles in a challenge match last week. It was an end to end game with plenty of skill and talent from both schools. Grace Deegan and Gemma Power captained the side and were impressive throughout. Molly Jones set up attack after attack and overall it was a great opportunity for the First Years to play LGFA in the school jersey.

Debating

Well done to all those students who took part in Ms Quinn’s Second Year Debating Competition and to the teams that qualified for the final. Juliette O’Dwyer, Jane Kelly and Ellie Ryan won the in-school competition by a narrow margin. They faced Kate Kelly, AoibheannDurack and Róisín O’Reillywith both sides going head to head on the motion,2025 offers little to be excited about’. All speakers offered spirited, competent arguments for and against and it was a fantastic conclusion to a great competition.
